Most museums in New York City offer free admission at some point. The Whitney Museum offers Free Friday Nights, Free Second Sundays and is free every day for those 25 and under. I took advantage of that second Sunday and met a friend there to see the Amy Sherald: Four Ways of Being exhibition. She’s the artist who Michelle Obama commissioned to paint her portrait as First Lady, which is in the exhibit.
After visiting the museum, we headed to the fourth-floor rooftop location of Catch. Sharing a little secret, if you go: the elevator button is difficult to find in the dark. We laughingly took out our iPhones for light and searched, finally finding it almost hidden above a typewriter, although it looks obvious from the photo!
We sipped our cocktails, my dining partner an Aperol Spritz, me one of the best bloody Marys I’ve had in a long, long time. Their classic ($20) contained Absolut Vodka, Tomato Juice and their amazingly thick and tomatoey Housemade “Bloody Mud”! I recommend.
We both ordered their large portion of Crispy Shrimp with spicy mayo and crunchy tobiko ($33). We each took half of it home! I’d recommend.
We added their amazing Parmesan fries sans the truffle oil.
We ended up befriending the woman who was sitting next to us, as we sat yakking for an hour, and the weather was perfect. Our neighbor ordered their “Hit Me” Chocolate Cake with liquid “Klondike”, roasted white chocolate ice cream, a brownie and Devil’s food cake ($24) that runs all over the plate when you “hit” it. She said it was yummy.
I’d recommend a rooftop meal at Catch any day!
