Take the 4 or 5 downtown, get off at Bowling Green station and enjoy a walk from Battery Park through Wagner Park along the lower Hudson River up to the World Financial Center. The views of Governors Island, Liberty Island (where the Statue of Liberty resides), Ellis Island and Jersey City are breath taking as you meander along the mostly shaded walk by the many yachts in the harbor.
I did just this with my friend Patty while at my New York office. We meandered along the mostly shaded walk on a perfect fall day, then stopped for a nibble at P.J. Clarke’s On the Hudson, not for the food but for the view and to sit outside. The food was fine, the service incredibly slow, but we didn’t care as we were enjoying the spectacular views … and the blue skies.
We had a crisp salad of mixed greens ($6.80) and some mini cheeseburger sliders ($13.40) with french fries, and washed it down with a glass of Bonterra organic Rose ($9) — a nice match for both the food and the weather.
