After a visit to the recently reopened Cooper Hewitt, — a fun interactive design museum that brings out the kid in you — we stopped in at Paola’s for a glass of wine.

I had come from a restaurant brunch tasting — that means multiple courses and dessert — so I just sipped the citrusy, dry, crisp Vernaccia di San Giminiano Vagnoni 2013 Toscano with a bit of minerality ($45).

My friend nibbled some olives and small chunks of Grano Padano ($12) followed by a hefty portion of a traditional moist eggplant parmigiana ($ 22), coated — not smothered — with an herbed tomato sauce.  If I weren’t bulging from an amazing brunch at Dominique Bistro, I would have taken more than just a bite. After that taste, I know I’d return to have my own portion of this layered, not overly rich, eggplant entree.
