I headed back up to Harlem recently, accepting an invite to sample the sharable Caribbean and Latin comfort food plates at La Bodega 47 Social Club.

To accompany your drinks (they offer many rum cocktails), I’d recommend the flatbread topped with lots of caramelized hoisen-flavored onions, fontina cheese and shredded duck leg meat ($12). The disappointment were the nachos with long-simmered shredded beef on tortilla chips, drizzled with an Honduras sour cream and sprinkled with cheddar cheese. Sadly the guacamole had already turned grey moments after we got it ($15).

Before digging into our main dishes, we delighted in the veggie options. Although both were flavorful, I  preferred the juicy roasted Brussels sprouts ($11), with a slab of ginger-flavored tofu in a sesame marinade sprinkled with pecans to the broccoli rabe ($8) flavored with Parmesan,  pine nuts and sun-dried tomatoes.

Dark-meat lovers will enjoy the Cuban-style chicken fricasse ($17) — a flavorful stewed chicken leg and thigh in a tomato-based sauce with capers, olives and onions that comes with Jasmine rice. Also very tender is their huge lamb shank seasoned with nine spices atop some cauliflower puree ($19). A hearty appetite is needed for the latter.

We skipped dessert as that evening, they only had two options, neither of which interested us.

If you’re in Harlem, this could be a fun place to stop by for a drink and nibble.
