After seeing “Happy Family” one of the worst acted plays I’ve ever seen, my friend and I walked down to the Meatpacking district and stopped for an alfresco bite at The Chester, an American eatery and bar, located at Gansevoort Hotel.

While eating the salty blistered shishito peppers with garlic and Maldon sea salt ($12), we sipped the velvety Merlot with hints of black fruit (Oberon 2012 Napa Valley, $48).

We followed that with an unusual mushroom flatbread pizza with caramelized onions, Parmesan cheese and triangles of fresh fuji apple ($14). The thin crisp crust was good, but it needed more of the flavorful the toppings. With that had a side of charred cauliflower — in need of lots more cooking — swimming in olive oil and seasoned too lightly for me with zatar and lemon juice  ($9).

Still if  you want to be outside watching the busy happening of the Meatpacking area, this is an okay place to stop.
