Was such a delight to return to db Bistro for attentively served good food in a sleek contemporary setting before heading to theatre to see Beautiful, the Carol King story.

I went with a girlfriend and — so typical of women dining together — wanted to split three separate items. I gotta applaud the staff who split all the dishes in the kitchen without even being asked.

The market lettuce salad comes with two types of cooked unpeeled winter squash lightly dressed in a sherry-honey vinaigrette. It’s all sprinkled with some quinoa and dried cranberries (15).

I also liked the also lightly dressed lobster salad with kohlrabi, slivers of granny smith apples ($23) sprinkled with espelette peppers. (I — of course — wished they added more of that succulent yummy crustacean!)

The wild mushroom risotto was so creamy, my dining companion thought it had added cream instead of that creaminess coming from proper cooking of the rice! Delicious with just the right bite left in the rice, all topped with charred scallions and shredded ricottta salata ($30 for an entree portion).

We were too full for dessert, but lingered over our espresso before heading to see Tony-winner Jessie Mueller starring as Carol King in the amazing show Beautiful, the inspiring story of Carol King’s rise to stardom. It’s a show not to be missed, with outstanding performances by all major cast members.
