On our walk to theatre in the Port Authority area on a weekend, we saw this inviting place on the corner of 39 and Ninth. Luckily we got the last two seats, as five minutes later there was a long waiting line.
HK serves “brunch” from 9 to 5 on Saturday and Sunday, cash only. The bistro-like menu includes breakfast items, salads, sandwiches (including burgers) and more.
If you have the time, have the unlimited bloody Marys, mimosas, screwdrivers or bellini’s for $16.95; if not, one is $10.
Each ordered entree was quite tasty, yet not as the menu described. There wasn’t a tomato or eggplant nor a piece of basil to be found in my “ratatouille, goat cheese & basil omelette” ($14). There was lots of sauteed zucchini and onions with the goat cheese, accompanied by toast and potatoes.
And the Asian chicken salad purportedly came with broccoli, bean sprouts lettuce and soy sesame chicken ($14), but the broccoli was missing.
That said, the place is hopping, with quick friendly service. And so I’d recommend it as a place for a meal before or after theatre, especially when attending one of the many that have popped up between Ninth and Tenth Avenue on 42nd Street.
