The West Bank Cafe is located far west on 42nd Street offering a good place to dine when attending one of the many theatres  now in that area. That includes Playwrights Horizons where I was saw Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play,” by Anne Washburn, an irreverent comedy with a vision  of an American future imitating pop culture, set during a day-after-tomorrow apocalypse.

For dinner, I began with the dry, citrusy Sauvignon Blanc: F. Chidaine  Clos Grange~Touraine-Loire, France 2012 ($11) while nibbling an order of their wild mushroom risotto balls ($10) sprinkled with parmesan cheese. These morsels are flavorful and crisp, but too dense, although they did have a  rich mushroom flavor.

What was perfection was the al dente orecchiette — the small ear-shaped pasta — ($17) tossed with hot Italian sausage and garlicky broccoli rabe all swimming in parmesan broth.

A good place to stop for dinner before theatre.
