On Bedford Street in the West Village is The Little Owl, a tiny American bistro with outdoor tables (weather permitting), a casual place that I’d frequent if I lived in the neighborhood.

We started with the delightfully light and flavorful salad of artichoke heart, hearts of palm, crushed green olives and grapefruit supremes tossed with arugula ($13), that salad alone is worth the trip. (Supremes are the naked flesh of the fruit with no rind, pith or seeds.)

Next we shared a risotto blended with hearty chunks of Maine lobster and sprinkled with chives ($23).  Also tasty is the braised pork on a soft taco shell topped with guacamole and salsa ranchero ($15), served-with a side salad of corn, red onion and pickled tiny cauliflower florets. A light, delightful well-prepared meal. I recommend The Little Owl.

To wash it down we ordered glassed of berry-forward Sangiovese, Podere San Cristoforo “Amaranto,” Tuscany ($15).
