My mouth watered with the menu description of the “Cock of the Walk” bloody Mary with house made bloody Mary mix with sriracha, Thai bitters and fresh lime juice at Spring Street Natural in Soho. What a disappointment! The drink was lacking spiciness.

Once we were served, I realized I picked the wrong entree. My breakfast burrito wasn’t as appetizing looking as my friend’s taco salad topped with grilled shrimp ($14, plus $2 for each shrimp). That satisfying salad contained lettuce topped with brown rice, black beans, a roasted corn-tomato salsa, guacamole, sour cream and queso fresco, all in a flavorful chipotle vinaigrette served with tri-color corn chips. It’s what I’d suggest.

The breakfast burrito’s ($14) whole wheat tortilla came filled with scrambled eggs, black beans, guacamole, Spanish rice, green onions, Monterrey jack cheese and Mexican chorizo. I would have preferred the kitchen cook the chorizo before adding it to the filling; and the mesclun salad’s dressing screamed for some salt, pepper and vinegar. I left the oily greens, but did enjoy the flavorful tomatillo and ranchero salsas over the burrito’s filling leaving the tortilla on my plate.

I would venture back in the spring, as the menu offers organic and healthy fare. I just picked the wrong entree.
