If you find yourself near Grand Central on a Sunday night looking for something to eat … do I have a bargain for you!

The Shakespeare, an English gastropub is offering its traditional, British family-style roast with choice of three roast meats (chicken, pork or beef) accompanied by seasonal vegetables (cauliflower, carrots, broccoli), roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings (AKA popovers made with the roast’s drippings) and customary condiments (creamy savory red sauce for the chicken, applesauce for the pork, horseradish for the beef) for only $19 a person! There’s a nut roast for vegetarians. This reasonably priced feast is served with a warm smile every Sunday from 11:30am to 7pm.

The night I was there, we started with the optional butternut squash soup ($5) and ended on a  sweet note with a classic British treacle tart drizzled with double cream ($5). After dinner we headed out to see David Hyde Pierce in Adam Block’s “A Life,” about a man with no luck in love, who turns to astrology to look for answers … That’s all I’ll share as I don’t want to give too much away.

Before heading to Playwrights Horizon,  we enjoyed a glass of warm house-mulled wine with hints of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice!
