Our afternoon was spent at Signature Theatre seeing the unique “Everybody.”  I say unique as at each performance the actors pick their roles by lottery. This is modern take on a medieval morality play about travels toward life’s greatest mystery. After the show, I had a craving for nachos and a margie.

My friend suggested heading to Soho to Mexican Radio. Since the show was only 90 minutes, we entered the almost empty restaurant late afternoon. We sat ourselves down in the sunlit front window.

M. the bartender admonished us for doing so; he said the tables were reserved, we needed to head to the dark back of the place. Bewildered  — as it was empty and not high-traffic time — we walked to the back and found a family with kids; and an older couple.

My friend mentioned how some restaurants only want young hip people by their windows. I spoke to the friendly waitress – who said, of course we could sit where we wanted in the window! Worried about what the bartender might do to our drinks, I chatted with him about his margies. BTW, they were quite good. I had the muddled jalapeño one, my friend the classic; both only $10 each as it was National Margarita Week!

With that we started with their piled high nachos ($12), choosing spicy ground beef and black beans as our choice of toppings. “Piled high” is an understatement, these are not the tortillas smothered in melted cheese kind — instead layers of that beef, the beans and shredded lettuce with some guacamole and a bit of cheese. They were oh, so filling (and satisfying for my hankering) that we had to cancel the rest of our order.

Would I suggest you head there? Not exactly, but if you are in Soho shopping and in the mood for Mexican food then I’d say go.
