Decided to head to chef Antoine Westermann’s  new attractive bistro of beautiful birds, Le Coq Rico to see if the chicken was as good as the hype.

Le Coq Rico operates on French time. After asking for a minute to peruse the menu, our laissez-faire waitstaff returned after  half an hour for our order. We grabbed that opportunity to give our drink and food order together, asking for the food not to be delivered all at once. Not. Everything — including our drinks — arrived at the same time.

My watery mimosa could have used a better balance ($13) of juice to sparkling wine.

The incredibly fluffy cow cheese omelet needed some herbs to bring out the flavor of the mild fresh cheese ($18); it was served with a green salad and perfectly fried potato coins.  Although the flavor of each component  of the sautéed chicken livers ($18)  on a ring of hummus filled with mache was fine, the dish  felt like the kitchen was trying too hard. I wouldn’t recommend this interesting dish listed as a salad.

The best, and what I’d recommend if you decide to go, is — as you might have guessed — the chicken.  For brunch, you get a pricey but tender and juicy quarter chicken ($24) accompanied by the same mixed green salad that came with the omelet and au jus.  We also ordered the crisp on the outside, tender inside fries ($8); excellent when hot. The coins that came with the omelet were crispier, even when no longer hot.

Le Coq Rico needs to find their rhythm or they won’t last.
