Baluchi’s Fresh, an Indian fast casual restaurant, opened recently near Bryant Park in Manhattan. The place is the creation of the Aggarwal family father and son team behind Baluchi’s and the Devi, the first Michelin star Indian restaurant in the US.

I was invited to their opening, and then stopped by recently before seeing Mia Farrow and Brian Dennehy in Love Letters. I wouldn’t have imagined that reading of love letters while sitting on stage at a desk would be moving. But with those two doing the reading, it was an emotionally charged 90-minutes of dialogue, leaving me and everyone in my row wiping tears from our eyes.

The Baluchi’s Fresh menu consists of rice bowls, wraps, salads, naan and sides, using farm-fresh vegetables and hormone-free meats. Offerings include samosas, pakoras, masala fries, roomali rolls, cauliflower manchurian, unda bhurjee, chicken tikka masala and more, with the average entrée costing about $10. The food is served mainly from the steam table at the back of the restaurant. Take out is also available.

If you’re in a rush, a great place to grab a tasty quick bite.
