“Would you and a guest like to have dinner on us?” came the invite.IndianPancake

That offer was not for a restaurant specifically, but instead to taste Tiger TigerBeerbeer — a pale lager, Singaporean favorite — with some sweet and spicy Southeast Asian foods.

To do so, I went to the Amber’s restaurant on Sixth Avenue and sampled Tiger’s suggested pairing of the Indian Pancake with a potato curry dipping sauce ($4.5). The pale straw gold beer nicely washed down the spiciness of the curry dipping sauce.

The mild beer was also a match for the Thai spiced lettuce wrap with LettuceWrapchicken($11) and Amber’s baby ribs marinated & braised with a peach white wine sauce ( $16).

It’s full-body went well with  the green curry ($14) with tofu, Chinese eggplant, asparagus, lily root, mushrooms, enoki mushrooms and yellow squash, too. I liked the flavor of the curry, but would have preferred it a tad spicier.

Amber serves delicious, economical Asian-inspired dishes that I’d recommend.
