Our friend, who had purchased the theatre tickets, booked the West Bank Cafe for brunch before the show, thinking that our show was on 42nd Street at Theatre Row. When she arrived, we had a good laugh that we had to go back downtown to Union Square area to see our show.
Pen Pals at the DR2 Theatre (103 E 15th) is an emotional show about a long-distance friendship between two women who grew up communicating through letters. I highly recommend this Off-Broadway play, featuring a rotating cast that changes approximately every two weeks. Be sure to grab a tissue before heading to your seat.
Our brunch at West Bank included their Brioche French toast ($18) topped with mixed berries and powdered sugar, with a side of sausage ($6) and scrambled eggs ($8); their 8-ounce WBC burgers, cooked as requested, topped with Gruyere cheese on a sesame seed bun with delicious, crispy skinny fries that neither of us who ordered could finish.

And one tried their Cobb Salad mixed greens topped with shredded chicken, crispy bacon, avocado, cherry tomatoes, hard-boiled egg, and crumbled blue cheese dressing on the side ($30).
We—happily satiated—headed downtown to see Pen Pals. I recommend both the show and WBC, yet not at the same time!
