When visiting friends in Bedford Hills, my friend and her other visiting friend took a drive to see Maryknoll, a sprawling, wooded hilltop campus. Part of it takes care of retired priests, brothers and missionaries. It even has its own ZIP code (10545)!
While in Ossining, my friend wanted us to see how close we were to Sing Sing Prison. She chided, “What other friend takes you to prison and then lunch on the water, nearby?”
Nestled right between the correctional facility and a private club is the entrance to the delightful Ossining Boathouse Restaurant. It is an odd entrance that is easy to miss unless you are in the know.
We decided to share everything, first ordering the fried calamari ($18) with roasted tomato sauce and Cajun mayo for dipping as our app. When Peter, our server, put the warm, round, crusty loaf of bread on the table, we dove right in since it was mid-afternoon and we were ravenous.
We then shared the fresh fish and chips ($26). Knowing we were sharing, the kitchen kindly divided it into three portions for us (I am sharing that so you know the photo only shows a third of the actual portion!). We also got their famous summer lobster roll ($37) with huge chunks of lobster in a soupçon of tarragon aioli on a buttered roll, which I dissected.

I highly recommend the Ossining Boathouse Restaurant on the water.
