My friend and I decided to get together at the last minute. I called around the neighborhood and was lucky when Michelangelo answered the phone and mentioned he could accommodate two more guests. As I arrived at Novita, a couple was finishing their meal outside, allowing us to enjoy dining al fresco on a perfect spring evening.

We started with martinis ($23) while perusing the menu and listening to the specials.

The funghi misti, which features a delicious grilled blend of mushrooms with Parmigiano shavings ($23), is a must-try. The simple combination of portobello, shiitake and oyster mushrooms paired wonderfully with a glass of Chianti Classico ($20).

The night’s special —created by chef Marco, Michelangelo’s dad—was also impressive: housemade spaghetti in an olive oil, wine and garlic sauce with fresh spring ramps, leeks, crab and shrimp ($35).

We concluded our meal with their delightful profiteroles.

I highly recommend a visit, being sure you tell Michelangelo, Bite of the Best, sent you.
