We ended up at Olio e Più, the restaurant we had planned to dine at, which didn’t take reservations, was closed. And, nearby Rosemary’s had a “Grade Pending” sign; I only dine at places with an “A” Health Department grade. We both recalled decent meals at this Italian trattoria at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Greenwich Avenue.

This time, we opted to share the offerings of the $30 Restaurant Week 2-course menu. Our first starter —the Sicilian eggplant caponatina with garlic crostini — is hands-down the best thing we ate.  It’s on the regular antipasti menu for $21 and is not to be missed.

The baby spinach salad featuring chunks of pears, crumbled Castelrosso cheese, dried cranberries and sliced almonds in a champagne-vinegar dressing was just okay. Nothing special.

We enjoyed the pizza bufalina, topped with tomato sauce, sliced buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil. We found the orecchiette ai broccoli e salsiccia—orecchiette pasta with broccoli, Italian sausage, and cherry tomatoes —to be mediocre at best.

Despite the experience of mediocre food and service this time, I will return, as my past visits have been much better.
