During a “Greet” with some new friends from Singapore, we visited Hudson Yards and enjoyed a meal at José Andrés’ Little Spain. A “Greet” is a free, informal tour of an area in New York City led by a volunteer from Big Apple Greeters, a nonprofit organization that has welcomed NYC visitors since 1992. I’m a new volunteer sharing my love of the city with newcomers.
After exploring Little Spain, we decided to sit at La Barra for table service. We started with their Patatas Bravas, delicious deep-fried potatoes drizzled with salsa brava and alioli. We also ordered Pan con Tomate (toasted bread brushed with tomato and extra virgin olive oil for $12), extra crispy pork belly with spicy mayo called Torreznos “de Soria” ($15), and Chorizo Ibérico de Bellota, which is acorn-fed Ibérico pork sausage cured in pimentón (2 oz for $18).
To finish off our snack, we shared their traditional Spanish caramelized custard inspired by José Andrés’ mother’s recipe, which cost $8 and was served with four spoons.
I highly recommend Little Spain and La Barra.
