I recently discovered tán, a taste of Rivera Maya’s Tulum with a seafood-focused menu by Chef Richard Sandoval and Chef Jonatán Gómez Luna Torres featuring coastal Mexican fare with bold flavors inspired by both their travels and heritage. It’s got fabulous food and impeccable, attentive service that’s not to be missed.
We started with their happy hour, enjoying their tasty guacamole served with tlayudas (crunchy tortillas), then headed upstairs for dinner.

Crazy people that we were on the steamy night, we opted for the outdoor area that made it reminiscent of a night in Tulum on the Yucatán coast.

There we started with their Tán Ceviche ($26) with lobster, shrimp and bay scallops in a coconut tiger’s milk drizzled with kaffir oil and topped with caviar. So decadent.
Their Quesabirria ($23) features blue corn tortillas filled with dried chili-braised beef and melted cheese, topped with pickled onions, and served with charred salsa roja, salsa roja and Birria consome (braising stock from the meat) .
We then ordered their Salmon-Xico ($34), a pan-seared salmon dish featuring rainbow chard, roasted mushrooms, fresh greens and a wonderfully mole de xico with layered flavors. Wish we had room to finish it. I do recommend.
We ended up chatting with the delightful GM, Nick, who stopped by our table outside on the deck to check on us, and who so kindly sent us their grandmother’s rice pudding ($14) with Jerez-macerated raisin that we somehow found room for, along with some delicious syrupy moscato.

I highly recommend checking out both their happy hour and meal options. Not sure how I missed this until now! Yes, that good.
