Eulalie flies under the radar. Pronounced “Oo-la-lee,” the restaurant has no social media presence and isn’t on any reservation sites. It’s all word of mouth. To book a table, you simply call. Tina Vaughn answers the phone herself and takes your reservation.

That personal touch comes as no surprise. Vaughn received the prestigious 2024 Michelin Service Award in New York.

I’d dined in this West Broadway space before when it was home to Drew Nieporent’s Bâtard and, before that, Montrachet. Today, Vaughn and chef Chip Smith run the intimate, fewer-than-40-seat restaurant, where guests are encouraged to linger for as long as they’d like.

We were celebrating a birthday and enjoyed every moment of the evening, beginning with a complimentary glass of rosé as we studied the handwritten menu.

“Welcome,” it read, “to our little escape from the outside world, home in historic Tribeca. We are delighted to have you share your evening with us.”

The note was signed by Chip and Tina, who also politely ask guests to put away their cell phones and be fully present during dinner.

We happily obliged.

We enjoyed every morsel of the $135 prix fixe menu, along with the thoughtfully selected $98 wine pairings.

The meal began with the house terrine, served with mustard and paper-thin pickled cucumbers. For the next course, my dining partner chose the twice-baked chèvre soufflé with a composed salad dressed in Green Goddess dressing, while I couldn’t resist the foie gras special.

Before our entrées, everyone was served an intensely rich bouillabaisse, crowned with a Carolina shrimp. We both opted for the lobster special as our main course.

My dining partner chose Chip’s coconut cake, rolled in fresh meringue and then grated coconut. I couldn’t resist the evening’s chocolate special—a rich, layered mousse cake served with ice cream and, much to my delight, a birthday candle.

Before we left, we stopped by the kitchen to thank Chef Chip Smith for a memorable meal. He happily posed for a photo, then planted a kiss on Tina’s cheek—a sweet glimpse of the partnership that makes Eulalie feel so special.
