After seeing a show not worth sharing about at the SoHo Playhouse that was part of Fringe, we walked over to Hudson Street to Westville, a casual, noisy place that my friend had been to before. She went with a vegetarian friend, explaining that Westville — which has a few other locations in Manhattan — offers plates of fresh veggies. Sounded good to me.

We started with the earthy Malbec Broquel, Argentina ($36) to accompany our meal. The minerality and dark berry flavor went nicely with our food.

We selected four from the almost three dozen choices of market veggies on their regular and specials list — one for $6, four for $15. The hardest part was selecting only four as they all sounded yummy. Our selections included roasted root vegetables, roasted fennel, roasted artichokes with parmesan and Brussels spouts with Dijon. The veggies were delicious, but a bit oily for me. We felt so stuffed eating the veggies and a half French dip sandwich that we couldn’t finish our food! When I return, I’d choose fewer roasted options.

That sandwich ($17) had thin slices of beef and melted Swiss cheese on crispy baguette with au jus for dipping, accompanied by parmesan fries and an arugula, blue cheese and walnut salad that I’d recommend.
