Last time I ate at The Place was when Le Cirque was there. Yes, a long time ago. So when the publicist asked for me to come try Villard’s new breakfast, I couldn’t resist.

Elegance is the word that comes to mind as you enter Villard at the luxurious (now called) Lotte New York Palace.

I selected the Wild West ($17) bloody Mary from their four interesting options. This one is made with Ketel One vodka, mezcal, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish and some salsa, garnished with jalapeños and yummy crisp bacon.

We started with everything on the “for the table” menu that included the unusual hearty farmhouse popovers baked with spinach, gruyere cheese and ham (2 for $18) inside – they’re almost a meal in themselves. We also indulged in their breadbasket ($18) with housemade a fresh croissants, pain au chocolat, cheese danish and a cinnamon roll and the not-to-be missed “Billionaire’s Bacon” ($12). That’s thick-cut sugared bacon seasoned with chili flakes, five spice powder and smoked paprika. Addicting.

We then shared avocado toast ($25) — a dish appearing on menus around town. Chef De Cuisine Oscar Granadosis’ is more unusual with the avocado mash spread on toasted brioche topped with thinly sliced radish and sprinkled with crispy prosciutto, and offered with a poached egg atop an almond romesco sauce.

The healthy but decadent circle of farro porridge ($22) came topped with golden raisins, fresh fruit mascarpone and slivered almonds.

What an elegant setting with great service for breakfast!
