The publicist for Romagna Ready 2 Go in the village emailed telling me about their new garden and asking me to come sample the cooking of Chef Lorenzo (known as Lenny). She wrote, “the style is 100% Italian and the garden is inspired by a small village close to Rimini (city in the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy) called Santarcagelo.”

We stopped by this cozy restaurant on Bleecker Street one really warm day when the temperature exceeded 90. We opted not to dine in the glass-enclosed garden as they hadn’t yet installed the AC so it was more like a greenhouse. Lenny wasn’t there but Max was in the kitchen, and all the food he prepared was served with love… and if I didn’t know better, I would have thought I was in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.

The one exception was the flatbread. Our mistake as we asked for the Modena with ricotta, arugula, tomatoes and ham ($13), thinking it would be a thin crust topped with the components as I had seen on their website. Instead it was a pita bread folded around the ingredients. It was fresh and good, but more than a meal itself and we didn’t want to ruin our appetite.

Do not miss their version of burrata caprese served with fresh mozzarella and sliced tomatoes all drizzled with rich olive oil sprinkled with salt, pepper, parley and oregano. The burrata oozed a rich creamy sauce that we spooned onto the fresh tomatoes. Perfection.

We asked Max which pasta to order, and requested the two he raved about asking for small portions. Absolutely order the panzerotti ai porcini con panna di porcini e tartufo con formaggio di sogliano dop. That’s half moon housemade pasta with porcini mushrooms, truffles and pecorino ($18).

Also good is the ravioli ripieni di aragosta di venzia con carbonara di mare dell’adriatcio; that’s lobster filled ravioli with a diced scallops, shrimp and salmon with green and red peppers carbonara ($18). With that we ate the perfectly cooked shish kebob of tender shrimp, crisp on the outside, soft and succulent in ($17). I would have loved to sample their octopus, but sadly they were out of it. I’ll need to go back to this special restaurant find for that.  And, I will.
