New York Edition: Aquagrill For Seafood
November 2, 2009Aquagrill in SoHo became the choice in looking for a restaurant, walking distance from the Classic Car Club where we went for a Maccallan single malt Scotch tasting with Eden Algie, a brand ambassador.
Our starters included an exceptionally fresh Bluefin Toro Tuna tartare with shiitake mushrooms and peppercress in a light truffle soy sauce ($18.50); and a salad of warm tender octopus ($12) chunks tossed with roasted peppers and onions and topped with crisp peppercress.
For entrees, we selected the grilled Florida red snapper — one of the daily specials recommended by our waiter — with roasted vegetables, couscous, sauteed broccoli rabe and crisped capers in a sweet garlic emulsion ($26.50)
The chef seared the diver sea scallops just enough to brown and served the succulent morsels with a risotto replete with dungeness crabmeat and some sugar snap peas all in a tomato shellfish emulsion ($26.50). (I only wished the chef had included more of the tender peas!) The grilled Yellowfin Tuna was also cooked to perfection and served with crunchy jasmine rice cakes and wok seared vegetables, all in a lightly gingered peanut sauce. ($26).
