Two veteran chefs of London’s River Cafe, Clare de Boer and Jess Shadbolt, and their friend Annie Shi, opened King last fall to much acclaim.

King is on the corner or King Street and Sixth avenue. A small but inviting restaurant serving crisp paper-thin crackers doused in olive oil and herbs to nibble on when perusing the menu.

King’s menu changes daily offering seasonal food with influences from Southern France and Italy. That’s great although I would have gone back for our appetizers alone. We had the first of the season yellow and green bean parmigiani with mint ($17) or for the poached lobster with spring peas, parsley and baby fennel ($18). Yes, they were that good.

The entrees were also good (although I personally could be happy with only apps as I find them much more interesting). We had the pork chop roasted in Grenache blanc with artichoke hearts (barigouile) and spinach ($35) and the grilled halibut with crushed fingerlings, Swiss chard and salsa verde ($36).

We ended with a couple dessert including the refreshing lemon granita.

I’d recommend a visit to King if you haven’t been!
