The friend I was dining with and I always thirstThe friend I was dining with and I always thirst for some spicy drink to commence our night. The Good Life at Crave Fishbar a modern rustic space on the Upper West Side did the trick this time. It contains spicy tequila, ancho reyes, passion fruit and lime juice in a glass with a salty rim ($14). That drink satisfied as we looked over the menu.

While we were doing so the waiter brought us some of their fresh baked (oh, so good) part whole-wheat sourdough bread to nibble. We opted for the Italian burrata ($16) with lots of fresh corn, large radish slices and spring onions drizzled in a rich chive oil and topped with crushed pecans. We also shared their red crab tostada ($16) with smashed avocado, shredded romaine, very hot red fresno chile (that brought tears to my eyes) and micro cilantro on four small corn tortillas; and Crave’s version of a lobster roll  although theirs came with steamed Peruvian white shrimp in a top-split bun ($15) along with drawn butter.

We shared one entree (which was enough)…a simple homemade cavatelli ($24) in a vine ripened tomato sauce topped with whipped ricotta and basil purée. It was fine but pricey for what it was.

With that, the three of us shared two sides: watermelon ($8) chunks, dripping with gochujang (a Korean red chile paste) and sprinkled with feta; and over-charred Brussels sprouts ($8) in a chorizo Vinaigrette. The latter was decent, although we felt that we should have stopped at the apps!

I’d recommend Crave Fishbar for apps only. – bonnie
