For a NYC meal for under $5, head to Chinatown to Bánh Mì Saigon, a Vietnamese sandwich shop often described as serving one of the best bánh mì in Manhattan. I concur.

As a refresher, the bánh mì sandwich is on a large French baguette (reflecting the French colonial influence) stuffed with the meat of your choice, with mayo spread, hot peppers, pickled carrots, daikon radish, cucumber spear and lots of fresh cilantro. I chose the intensely flavored barbecue pork sandwich, which was enough to share (at least for me), best drizzled with sriracha sauce. I highly recommend….

And if you have room for some Chinese dim sum, head over to Prosperity Dumpling on Eldridge Street for another Cheap Eats: four pork and chive dumplings for $1. Also worth the visit.
