Michael’s New York, a restaurant popular with the power set, announced its “Mixology Wednesdays” program by inviting editors and bloggers to sample those cocktails along with their  bar bites and new menu.

Mixologist Michael Flannery designed the new contemporary cocktails ($12, each). Most associate Cognac with snifters, but at 106-proof,  the Louis Royer VSOP “Force 53” Cognac was specifically formulated to stand up to mixing in cocktails as in Eve’s Temptation,  made with that cognac plus Marie Brizard Curacao liqueur, Benedictine, fresh lemon juice, and an apple cider reduction.  The Happy Hacienda is a blend of “Santa Teresa 1796” Rum, Pineau Des Charentes and Grand Marnier 100;  “Santa Teresa 1796” is Venezuela’s aged rum using a method traditionally used for  sherries and brandies.  Those two were my favorites.

With the cocktails we sampled Michael’s delicious “Bar Bites” including happy haciendaKobe Beef Sliders with caramelized Vidalia onions, gruyere and Dijon mustard; Spicy Korean Tacos with Kalbi hanger steak, pickled slaw and cilantro; Maple Bourbon B.L.T. with watercress and tomato; a Crispy Oyster Trio  with grapefruit and lemon butter, Korean Chicken Lollipops with Spicy Korean Paste, and Market Crudo with rhubarb, salmon roe vinaigrette.

Consider stopping in for a cocktail and a bar bite or two pre- or post theatre or after a day at MoMA!
