Earlier this month, I treated my friend Diane to a NYC day for her birthday — one that included a massage at an Asian-style spa and lunch of her choice. We ended up at Mishima, a Japanese restaurant on Lexington between 30 and 31st streets, with my friend Lyerka joining us for lunch. None of us had previously been.

What an absolute treat!

From James — our ever-smiling and attentive waiter— to fresh perfectly grilled wild salmon (teriyaki style), incredibly fresh sushi and so much more in between (including succulent gyoza, flavorful shumai, tasty hijiki — a dark brown/black seaweed — salad). And so reasonably priced! Lunch for 3 with lots of wine, only $100.

When in the area, do try this tiny gem. And, do ask to sit on the second floor and request James as your waiter.
